We aimed to evaluate rates and nature of PICC-related complications from insertion to removal and analyze risk factors of complications at baseline and during healthcare. Background: PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) is a central line used in healthcare to provide vascular irritant drugs. Complications with PICC can be infection, thrombosis, thrombophlebitis or occlusion of the catheter. PICC-line - Översikt En centralvenös infart har en kateterspets som mynnar ut i en central ven, vanligtvis vena cava superior, vid eller i övergången till hjärtats förmak.
Infection: Catheter related blood stream infection (CRBSI). CRBSI is an inherent risk with any vascular device. 2020-12-22 PICC lines have several risks and complications including infection, phlebitis, air embolism, thrombus formation, malposition of catheters, nerve injury, difficult removal and occasional breakage of catheters. Of the two, blood clots are more common, affecting 20% to 40% of patients. Infections are less common, with the risk being approximately 2%. What is a PICC? A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is a tube, which is inserted into a vein in the upper arm, usually in the middle part.
